Marcela was born and raised in northern Mexico but has lived in Washington for nearly ten years. Marcela received her Master’s in Environmental and Forest Sciences from the University of Washington where she studied the effects of recreation on wildlife in the wildland-urban interface and explored the factors that influence the use of science in recreation and wildlife management.
Before joining Conservation Northwest, Marcela worked at the Department of Natural Resources as an assistant land manager in the agriculture team. She has also conducted forest and fire ecology fieldwork, taught youth environmental education, and conducted research on the breeding biology of Scripps’s Murrelets at Channel Islands National Park. Marcela is excited to bring her passion for science and collaboration to protect forest habitats and the wildlife that rely on them. Outside of work, she enjoys spending her time camping, hiking, paddleboarding, and crocheting.
