Conservation Northwest offers an analysis of fire suppression techniques and presents a case for fuelbreak alternatives: thinning and prescribed burning
Thinning of dense forests in fire-excluded areas, prescribed burning, reducing fuels on the ground, allowing some wildfires to burn in backcountry settings under favorable fuel and weather conditions, and revitalizing Indigenous fire stewardship practices.
After passing both chambers of the legislature, the DNR forest health and fire suppression bill, HB 1168, is heading to the Governor.
