Rally to protect Northwest rivers and endangered fish!

WILD NW Action Alert #267: Join us on Dec. 1 at a rally and public hearing in Seattle to show support for wild salmon recovery and removal of unnecessary dams on the Snake River.
The Pacific Northwest teems with life, from lush mountain forests to expansive sagebrush grasslands. Wild salmon, and the rivers in which they run, are integral parts of these landscapes – without them, ecosystems and economies alike would falter. They are truly the lifelines of the Northwest.
But for decades an abundance of dams on the Columbia and Snake rivers have altered river health and inhibited the natural path of salmon, a path that they have taken for tens of thousands of years.
Now, we have a unique and important opportunity to set that path straight again. Federal agencies are hosting public hearings in several Northwest cities, including in Seattle on Thursday, December 1, to develop a new plan to save endangered wild salmon and steelhead in the Columbia and Snake Rivers. Among the proposals being considered is the removal of four unnecessary dams on the lower Snake that hinder fish passage.
Please join us at that public hearing, as well as the 4:00 pm rally preceding it in downtown Seattle, to show public support for these rivers and the wild fish and ecosystems that depend on them!
This spring, the U.S. Environmental District Court issued a strongly-worded opinion that found the agencies’ last plan inadequate and illegal, in violation of both the Endangered Species Act and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). This is the fifth time the courts have rejected a federal plan for failing to protect and restore endangered wild salmon and steelhead populations in the Columbia and Snake rivers.
We need to act now to ensure that the next plan is lawful, science-based, fiscally responsible, and includes the removal of the four costly dams on the lower Snake River. Our wild salmon, rivers, and ecosystems depend on it.
Join us next Thursday, December 1, to rally for wild salmon and to ‘Free the Snake’!
