Join collaborative sagelands restoration efforts in Douglas County

Help collect sagebrush seeds near Spiva Butte Nature Preserve with Conservation Northwest and Chelan-Douglas Land Trust

We invite volunteers of all ages and abilities to join us in collecting sagebrush seeds. Participants will walk cross country on uneven flat ground for up to one mile. Come join us on:

Saturday, November 13

10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Collected seedheads will be later distributed within the Spiva Butte Nature Preserve to help sagebrush recovery after the Pearl Hill Fire in 2020. Greater sage grouse, sage thrashers, and many other native wildlife species depend upon healthy sagebrush for food and habitat. Reseeding efforts will the help restore this important ecosystem and complements the work of our Sagelands Heritage Program.

The meeting location is a 1-1/2 hour drive from Wenatchee, 2-1/2 hours from Spokane, or a 1-1/2 hour drive from Winthrop. Detailed directions will be provided upon registering for the event. Parking will be along a county road and volunteers will collect sagebrush seeds within sight of vehicles. If possible, bring hand clippers or scissors for cutting seedheads.

Please read CDLT’s COVID Safety Protocol and do not attend the event if you are feeling unwell. Remember to bring a face mask to wear when you’re around other people, water, food, and extra layers of clothing appropriate for this windy site.

We’ll supply some snacks and raffle off four gas cards!
