Hiking the Columbia Highlands with staff from Senators Cantwell, Murray

Conservation Northwest / Jun 04, 2019 / Cascades to Rockies, Columbia Highlands, Wilderness

Our Chewelah and Deer Park field staffers and colleagues from the Northeast Washington Forest Coalition had the pleasure of showing representatives from the offices of Senator Maria Cantwell and Senator Patty Murray around the Columbia Highlands this week!

We hiked some incredible trails while talking about wolves, range riders, Get Out Fest, and the need for more protected wilderness on the Colville National Forest. Despite excellent conservation and recreation values, less than three percent of the forest is designated wilderness, the smallest amount of any national forest in the Pacific Northwest!

Learn more on our Columbia Highlands webpage, and stay tuned for an update on the Colville Forest Plan.
