Conservation Northwest / Jul 25, 2018 / British Columbia, Coast to Cascades, Connecting Habitat, Grizzly Bears
By Joe Scott, International Programs Director
Our Coast to Cascades Grizzly Bear Initiative recently joined staff from the Boothroyd Band (Nlaka’pamux First Nation) and St’at’imc First Nation Government Services for a tour of the Nahatlatch River. The three teams are working together to recover the Critically Endangered Stein/Nahatlatch Grizzly Bear population in southern British Columbia.
They spent the day touring the Boothroyd’s salmon restoration projects and important cultural sites, and learning about threats to salmon, grizzly bears and other values in the unique watershed. The Nahatlatch is home to five species of salmonids and boasts a series of in-stream lakes nestled between towering ridges south of the iconic Stein Heritage Park. Check out photos below!
