This Earth Day Illustrate I-90 Wildlife

The I Heart I-90 Wildlife contest is under way and we are receiving some fantastic entries from youth across Washington state. From puppets and Lego bridges to oil pastels, the creativity of the artwork we are seeing is very impressive.
As we get closer to Earth Day, we invite you to encourage the K-12 students, teachers, and youth group leaders in your life to participate in our contest! It’s a fun and creative way to help wildlife along I-90 near Snoqualmie Pass, and the perfect Earth Day project to teach students about wildlife and habitat in the Cascade Mountains of Washington.
Entering the student art contest is simple
Visit the contest website to choose one or more I-90 wildlife species, illustrate the species, and post a photo of your illustration to either the contest Facebook page, to Instagram, and/or to Twitter with the hashtag #iHearti90Wildlife. Your young artists will have the chance to win all kinds of prizes, including a GoPro HERO camera, and to see their effort really make a difference.

Apart from educating students about the importance of wildlife crossings in the I-90 corridor and the cool animals that will use them, this contest also aims to increase public awareness about I-90’s first wildlife overpass, scheduled for groundbreaking this June. The bridge is one of 20 planned over- and under-crossings that are all part of the Washington State Department of Transportation’s Snoqualmie Pass East project, making I-90 safer for people and wildlife.
Since 2000, Conservation Northwest has been leading efforts to reconnect Washington’s north and south Cascades by protecting, restoring and connecting wildlife habitat along I-90 through The Cascades Conservation Partnership and the I-90 Wildlife Bridges Coalition.
We are very excited about the groundbreaking for I-90’s first wildlife overcrossing, the overall benefits of this project for wildlife and people, and about the student contest.
