Volunteer opportunities to remove overgrown flora at wildlife crossing under I-90 near North Bend

Come join Conservation Northwest as we work to improve an existing wildlife undercrossing on I-90 at Mile post 27 between Preston and North Bend. We will be removing blackberry, small trees and brush that are restricting the viewshed under the interstate for elk and other species, as they prefer a large ‘openness’ to feel comfortable using the crossing.

These volunteer work parties will be held on:

There are ten volunteer slots available for each day. Please sign-up below!

Once you’ve registered, detailed instructions and directions will be sent to you prior to the work party date.

This undercrossing and others along I-90 around Snoqualmie Pass serve as key wildlife crossing points for elk, black-tailed and mule deer, coyotes, black bears, fishers and other critters. Supporting wildlife movement under I-90 makes habitat in the interstate corridor more permeable for all wildlife, and compliments the habitat restoration efforts of our Central Cascades Watersheds Restoration program.

While some physical activity is required, individuals of all ages and ability levels are welcome and encouraged to volunteer.

If interested in joining, you will need to dress appropriately (long pants and sturdy footwear), a water bottle and a sack lunch. We will have equipment on-site for use along with extra water and snacks.

Fill out and print a Field Volunteer Waiver Form if you’re able. If not, we will have a waiver form for you to sign on-site.

We continue to take precautions with Covid-19 and encourage anyone not vaccinated to wear a mask.  A sanitizing station will be available, however the nearest indoor bathroom is a short drive to North Bend.

Please RSVP below. We hope to see you there!
